Tips and tricks for the most beautiful black
Washing
- Wash dark and light items separately.
- Use a liquid detergent especially made for black clothing.
- Before washing black clothing for the first time, soak the item in white vinegar. This helps seal in the colour.
- Wash black clothes inside out. This protects the visible side, especially the seams and edges, from wear.
- Iron them inside out as well. This helps prevent shiny spots.
- Wash at the lowest possible temperature - modern detergents work great at 30 °C (85 °F).
- Hang to dry (but not in direct sunlight), instead of using a dryer. The hot air will weaken the fabric, causing it to fade more quickly.
- For delicate and precious items, either wash them by hand or have them dry cleaned instead of using a washing machine.
Wearing
- Match your blacks: some black clothes may have a purple or blue cast, while others may have a brown cast. Check your outfit in daylight - the differences may be subtle, but they will show!
Miscellaneous
- Be careful with perfume and deodorant - both can leave white stains on dark fabrics.
- To quickly and easily remove wrinkles, hang your clothes in the bathroom and run hot water from the shower. The steam will remove the wrinkles.
- If you don't have a lint remover, just wrap some sticky tape around your fingers to remove lint and dust.
